The Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr.Musa Panahov attended the 2nd Ministerial Meeting on Euro-Asian Transport Links (EATL) project, held on 26 February 2013, on the occasion of the 75th Jubilee session of the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The discussions were held about the future perspectives of Euro-Asian Transport Links (EATL) project which is a joint undertaking between the UNECE and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. In addition to that, the results of II phase of the Project were approved and the continuation of III phase (2013-2017) was generally agreed during the meeting.
Furthermore, last developments on unified railway law which considers single legal regime for railways were also reviewed during the meeting, and it was agreed to unite and promote existing efforts towards unified railway law.
At the end of the meeting, a “Joint Statement on future development of Euro-Asian Transport Links” was signed by 32 countries, whereas a “Joint Declaration on the promotion of Euro-Asian rail transport and activities towards unified railway law” was signed by 37 countries. Both documents were signed on behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan with relevant declarations.
After the meeting a special photo exhibition contest titled “Transport in Motion” was held. More than 300 transport related photos from 22 countries and a number of international organizations were demonstrated at the photo exhibition contest. Our country was awarded first place in the “Human Face” category. In that regard, the relevant certificate was presented by the UNECE Executive Secretary, Mr. Sven Alkalaj to the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr.Musa Panahov.
