Azerbaijan became a member of the United Nations on 2 March 1992 after restoration of its independence. UN membership has opened up opportunities for Azerbaijan to join the international community as an equal member, to address its security concerns and offer cooperation using the mechanisms provided for in the UN Charter, as well as to contribute to international peace and development.
