Meeting of Parties to the Espoo Convention adopted a decision that Armenia has breached its obligation under the Convention with respect to the building of a new Nuclear Power Plant unit in Metsamor

The 6th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) was held in Geneva, from 2 to 5 June 2014. 

Along with other issues during the event the decision was adopted on the submission made by Azerbaijan to the Implementation Committee about Armenia's non-compliance with its obligations under the Espoo Convention with respect to the building of a new Nuclear Power Plant unit in Metsamor, Armenia.

So, the Meeting of the Parties decided that the Republic of Armenia has breached its obligation deriving from the Espoo Convention with respect to the building of a new Nuclear Power Plant unit in Metsamor, Armenia, and gave a mandate to the Implementation Committee to follow-up and as appropriate, monitor the case.
