International Day of Nowruz and Azerbaijani Cultural Night were held at United Nations Office at Geneva by Permanent Mission
On 27 March 2013 an event on International Day of Nowruz organized by Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey was held at the UN Office at Geneva.
In accordance with the resolution on “International day of Nowruz” put forward on the initiative of the Republic of Azerbaijan and adopted by the UN General Assembly, an event dedicated to the International Day of Nowruz is organized every year together with the UN Office at Geneva. In 2013 Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva was the leading organizer for holding the event.
The opening ceremony of the event was addressed by Madame Sevda Mammadaliyeva, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Director-General of UN Office at Geneva. The event was also attended by Mr. D.Chikvaidze, Director of the UNOG Library and Chairman of the UNOG Cultural Committee of the United Nations Office at Geneva, UN Secretariat, the staff of international organizations, the members of the diplomatic corpus, the Geneva city officials, media representatives and diaspora representatives.
The videos and photos with HD format which illustrate the history, culture, art and tourism potential of our country were shown, as well as the copies of the “Baku” and “Irs” magazines were distributed by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The national musical instrumental ensemble invited specially because of the event performed folk songs and mugham which was highly appreciated by the guests
The participants of the event demonstrated a special interest to sweets and national cuisine patterns – “pakhlava” and “shekerbura” that are the decoration of the tables in Novruz holiday - which were presented in trays by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as to the exhibition which included different materials on history, culture and art of our country. Guests were interested in specific aspects of the celebrations of Nowruz holiday in our country, and were wondered at the richness of our history, culture, cuisine and art.
On the same day Azerbaijani Cultural Night was organized by the Permanent Mission at the UN Office at Geneva. The opening ceremony of the Cultural Night was addressed by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan Madame Sevda Mammadaliyeva and the Director-General of UN Office at Geneva Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Mr. K.Tokayev expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Permanent Mission and in particular Ambassador, Permanent Representative Dr. Murad N.Najafbayli for the organization of the International Day of Nowruz and Azerbaijani Cultural Night.
The grandiose concert programme at the performance of the talented Azerbaijani musicians was held within the Azerbaijani Cultural Night. The official reception was organized by the Permanent Mission at the end of the event.
