The delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan headed by Mr. Ogtay Shiraliyev, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan has participated at the 134th session of the Executive Board of World Health Organization (WHO), held on 20-25 January 2014, in Geneva.

More than 70 Agenda items on the issues of WHO reform process, health systems, promoting health through the life course, communicable and non-communicable diseases, implementation of International Health Regulations, management, financial and legal matters, as well as staffing matters were discussed and 14 resolutions were adopted during the 134th session of the Executive Board of the WHO.

During the session the Delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan has expressed its position on several items of the Agenda.

Within the framework of the session Mr. Ogtay Shiraliyev, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan had bilateral meetings with Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, as well as with the Ministers and Deputy-Ministers of Health of different states and Regional-Directors of WHO.

Background information: The Executive Board is one of the main bodies of the WHO. The main functions of the Executive Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the World Health Assembly, and generally to facilitate its work.

The Executive Board is composed of 34 members qualified in the field of health. Members are elected for three-year terms. During the 133rd session of the Executive Board, held on 29-30 May 2013 Mr.Ogtay Shiraliyev, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan was elected as the Vice-Chair of the Executive Board.
